It is useful for practice and social golf on elevation changes, but it must be disabled when competition rules require it.
Premium models are easiest to justify through better optics, steadier target acquisition, build quality and a more consistent routine—not raw distance range alone.
GPS is better for immediate hole context and blind shots. A laser is better for an exact distance to a visible target. Many golfers use both.
