Editorial Standards
Independent advice, clear reasoning and practical recommendations
Golf Gear Lab exists to help golfers make better equipment decisions. Editorial recommendations are based on usefulness, product fit, evidence, value and real-world trade-offs.
Independence
Commercial relationships do not determine scores, awards, rankings or verdicts. If a product is not the right fit for a golfer, we say so.
Explainable verdicts
Every recommendation should explain who the product is for, who should avoid it, what alternatives exist and why the verdict was reached.
Updates
Reviews and guides should be revisited when prices change, firmware is updated, products are replaced or better alternatives become available.
Our editorial rules
- Help before selling.
- Evidence before opinion.
- Clarity before completeness.
- Decision before product.
- Alternatives should be visible, not hidden.
- More expensive does not automatically mean better.
- A good review should reduce uncertainty within the first minute.
How products are selected
We prioritise products golfers are actively comparing, products that represent meaningful category choices and products that help explain the market. Coverage may include premium, mid-range and value options where each serves a clear buying need.
How awards are assigned
Awards such as Best Overall, Best Value and Recommended are assigned according to the product's role in its category and the golfer it serves. Awards are not sold and are not guaranteed by retailer or manufacturer relationships.
